Fall is here and the Holy Cross Wilderness is a pretty good place to visit for an aspiring leaf peeper such as myself. I knew I couldn’t head up there just to look at leaves though. I needed an excuse. Mt. Jackson (13,670 ft) is the high point of a long north/south ridge line separating Cross Creek to the east and Lake Creek to the west. Located in the northern HCW, the peak affords great views of Mt. of the Holy Cross, Gold Dust and Finnegan peaks, and the Elks to the west. Read more…
Wednesday, late-July. I wanted to take advantage of a perfect weather forecast and try for a big loop I had envisioned in the western-Sawatch. The loop, while eccentric, allowed me to nab a group of peaks that I had been eyeing for awhile but was reluctant to pull the trigger on because of access concerns. Most of the group (namely Middle Mountain, “Booby Prize”, and Prize Benchmark) are almost always accessed via McNasser Gulch, or at least I’ve never seen a report to the contrary. Keep reading…
A few weekends back Anna-Lisa, myself, and a few friends added another chapter to our annual Twin Lakes camping trip. We normally look to pull this trip off in August but this year schedules dictated it’d have to be late-June. As has become customary, Anna-Lisa and her friend Melina set off to summit another 14er (Mt. Yale this time) while I looked for 13er options in the area. After much deliberation I decided to head over Indy Pass and up the Lincoln Creek Road to check out the Anderson/Truro area. Keep reading…
