A weekend trip for Dallas Peak from Denver? That’s a crazy bunch of driving for one summit. So Ryan and I looked for some new mountains somewhere sort of en route, and landed on the Truros, which most place in the Sawatch though one old CMC book I have considers them part of the Elks. Kevin K and I drove over Independence Pass, then north/east on Hwy 82 to the turn for the Lincoln Gulch 4×4 road to Anderson Lake, where we roused Ryan from his dreamland. Keep reading…

The Journey Above 14K: The Colorado 14ers

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dillon. I grew up in New Jersey and moved to Colorado at the end of 2010. I like chicken, diet soda, beer, and greek yogurt. I’m an accountant, but still think taxes are evil. I didn’t find my mountain wife on top of one of these 14er’s, but am still holding out hope. AND I really hate my snowshoes. As soon as I started researching Centennials it became apparent there are several that just beg to be skied. Rising dramatically from the northern side of Highway 82 and offering up numerous prominent 3,000+ foot road shots off its flanks, “Lackawanna” is undoubtedly one of them. A few trip reports on the interwebs single out a specific gully that drops southwest off the summit ridge of this humble peak. Mt. Ouray: Skiing the Devil’s Armchair

I’m sure Salida locals have climbed and skied this behemoth of a peak (thought I don’t personally know of any), but there’s not much, if any, documented ski descents of the east face of Mt. Ouray (edit – Ted Mahon’s short TR came up yesterday on centennial skiers.com…..). Also, given the fact that my ex-wife and I tried to climb and ski the peak several years ago, I think I’ve finally found an experience worth sharing – so here we go. Keep reading…
