As our weekend sojourn in Vail to admire the changing aspens and snow-capped Gores came to a close, Anna-Lisa and I decided we weren’t ready to return to the city just yet. Our friend David (Zambo) expressed some interest in Kelso Ridge, it being a short scramble route and relatively close to Denver. About two months ago Carl pitched me the idea of going for the Grand Teton via the Upper Exum Ridge, a route about as classic as they get. Immediately I was interested; the Grand stood high on my wish list as one of those must-do-in-your-lifetime peaks, as it does for many. Anna-Lisa and I decided to take up an invitation to Telluride over the 4th for some hiking, climbing, and sightseeing action.  On Friday the 2nd we loaded up the Accord with climbing and camping gear and began the long haul through the Rockies.  Also along on the trip (in fact the whole thing was their idea) was Carl, his wife Dayna, and her sister Denise.  One of the primary goals for this trip was to summit Mt. Double Date on Huron Peak

Anna-Lisa and I got an invite from two friends of ours to head up a short 14er over the weekend.  Huron Peak was the easy decision as the standard route is only 5 miles and 3,100 vertical round trip.  Al and I met Katie and David at their place in Denver at 5am where we piled into one vehicle for the drive to the TH.
