The skiing around Vail has been pretty good.
It’s been an interesting start to the year so far, with several large storm cycles rolling through Colorado punctuated by long periods of dry, sometimes unseasonably warm weather in between. The overall snowpack has lagged behind the median several times only to play catchup with big dumps to get us back to average. And the variable weather has created a somewhat complex avalanche situation state-wide that’s likely only going to get more complicated before it improves.
That said I’ve been fortunate enough to get out on several pow days through January and February, keeping things pretty conservative overall, and it’s made for a nice precursor to spring fast approaching. A few of those deep days, in pictures, are below:

Off the top of the peak after a chilly summit stay.
Working our way up for a second lap.
With plenty to look at across the way.
On the exit run. It’s time to go home.
A few weeks later in a familiar zone west of Vail Pass. A good day to keep things low-angle but otherwise amazing conditions.

Sunset over Holy Cross and a nice way to end the day.
In the Chair 10 snow globe. A few inbounds days sprinkled throughout is never a bad idea.
A day of sled skiing west of Ptarmigan Point with Bill M. and my neighbor Craig.
And lastly a few pics from a deep day Dave and I had in the Gore a week and a half ago.

Why not go for one more?

Stay safe out there everyone. Spring is just around the corner…
